Kenneth ‘Mac’ Rogers Awarded 2018 Rick Van Horn College Scholarship

May 7, 2018

Kenneth ‘Mac’ Rogers from Bloomington, Ind., is the 2018 recipient of the $1,000 Rick Van Horn Scholarship.  Rogers played tennis all four years at Bloomington High School North and was named team captain while receiving All Conference and All State honors. He reached the Indiana High School Athletic Association state tournament three straight years, and was the state singles runner-up last fall.

Outside of high school tennis, Rogers competed in USTA tournaments and is currently ranked No. 30 in USTA/Midwest Section Boys’ 18 singles and No. 2 in Central Indiana Tennis Association Boys’ 18 singles. He was named the Northwest Herald Player of the Year two times.

Off the court, Rogers is active in his high school’s Student Athletic Board, Cougar Leaders program, Riley Dance Marathon, and Hoosier Outrun Cancer. He received the Monroe County School Corporation Personal Achievement Award. Rogers volunteers his time giving back to the sport of tennis by helping with younger players in a local program.

Rogers plans to pursue his collegiate tennis career at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., where he plans to major in business with a goal of obtaining a college tennis coaching position as a career.

This scholarship was established in 2007 in conjunction with a donor with the goal of rewarding young players with funding to advance their education and tennis interests.  Each year, a $1,000 award is presented to one junior tennis player from the Section who has a passion to pursue work in the tennis industry.
