Cruise Earns 2018 Richard Bradley College Scholarship

May 7, 2018

Congratulations to Camille Cruise from Franksville, Wis., who is the winner of the $2,500 Richard Bradley Scholarship. Cruise has played tennis four years at The Prairie School on the varsity tennis team. As a young player, Cruise participated in the USTA Foundation National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) program in Milwaukee, and is now serving as a mentor for younger players in the same program. Through nonprofit youth development organizations, the NJTL provides free or low-cost tennis and education programming to more than 225,000 under-resourced youth.

Outside of tennis, Cruise is a multi-sport athlete as she also competes in track and field. She is involved with her school’s Multicultural Club, and received the Professional Women’s Network for Service Aspiring Young Woman Award. Cruise plans to major in neuroscience at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass.

This scholarship is presented to one African American junior tennis player from the Section each year.  Richard Bradley was a long-time volunteer for the Chicago Prairie Tennis Club (the oldest African American organization in the country), and focused much of his efforts in promoting and growing junior tennis.
