Brumbaugh, Chamberlin Win Tim and Tom Gullikson Scholarships

Each year the $2,500 Tim and Tom Gullikson Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female high school tennis player.  Congratulations to this year’s winners:

 

 

Philip Brumbaugh, from West Milton, Ohio has played four years on the Milton-Union High School boys’ tennis team.  In addition to being named the team’s Most Valuable Player last year, Brumbaugh was the team’s league champion and earned First Team All-Area and First Team All-State honors.  He finished his sophomore year in fourth place at the Ohio State High School Athletic Association state championship in doubles.  In addition to school tennis, Brumbaugh was active in USTA Junior Team Tennis and competed in USTA/Midwest Section tournaments. 

 

Brumbaugh participated in other extracurricular activities including Academic Quiz Team and in school musicals.  In addition to tennis, he was a member of the basketball team for two years and the golf team for two years.  He plans to play collegiate tennis and major in Business and/or History Education at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.

 

 

Lillian Chamberlin, from Harbor Springs, Mich. plays varsity tennis at Harbor Springs High School and served as team captain.  During her sophomore and junior years, Chamberlin was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and received All-State Honorable Mention honors.

Chamberlin also competed in USTA/Midwest Section tournaments, including the USTA/Midwest Section Marian Wood Baird Cup.  The 2015 Baird Cup team won the Team Sportsmanship Award and Chamberlin also has won two USTA Southeastern Michigan District tournament sportsmanship awards. 

 

Chamberlin is an honor student and member of Harbor Springs National Honor Society.  In addition to tennis, she is a competitive swimmer for the Hammerhead Swim Club.  She also is active in jazz band, student council and Michigan Youth in Government.

 

This scholarship was established in 1998 to recognize Tim and Tom Gullikson and to reward young players with funding to advance their education and tennis interests.  Each year, a $2,500 award is presented to one male and one female junior player from the Section.
