Former Grant Recipients Excel at NCAA Championships, and Brooke Austin Gives Back to Sport

One of the USTA/Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation’s past grant recipients, Brooke

Austin from Indianapolis, Indiana, was giving back to tennis in her hometown on June 24. Austin spent the afternoon speaking with junior players about playing collegiate tennis during the USTA/Midwest Section College Showcase at the Barbara Wynne Tennis Center in Indianapolis.

Austin shared her experiences about playing collegiate tennis at the University of Florida, and answered questions from the prospective junior players as well as their parents and coaches. The USTA/Midwest Section College Showcase was held prior to the start of the prestigious USTA/Midwest Closed Outdoor Junior Championships.

Austin is coming off a great sophomore year playing college tennis at the University of Florida as she and teammate Kourtney Keegan recently captured the NCAA Division I Doubles Championship. Austin and Keegan dominated the University of Southern California’s team of Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr with a 6-2, 6-0 score to capture the University of Florida’s fifth NCAA doubles title. Check out more about Austin’s run to the championship title.

The USTA/Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation also

recognizes another former scholarship recipient Branden Metzler from Rockford, Illinois. Metzler concluded his junior year at Kalamazoo College by recently finishing as runner-up in the NCAA Division III tennis championships. Metzler lost in the finals Skyler Butts of Claremont Mudd Scripps in a tough three set match 2-6, 7-6, 2-6. Check out more about Branden’s run to the singles final.
