Carter Earns Richard Bradley Scholarship

Congratulations to Mya Carter, from Indianapolis, Ind., the winner of the $2,500 Richard Bradley Scholarship. Carter has played tennis four years at Ben Davis High School where she is team captain and was named the Most Valuable Player. For several years Carter has participated in the USTA Foundation National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) program in Indianapolis and is now an instructor for younger players in the same program.

Carter is on the school’s Honor Roll and is involved in other activities including show choir, cheerleading, and is active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also is the Senior Class President and part of the Principal Leadership Council. Carter plans to major in Management Pre-Law at Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind. this fall and is hoping to participate in the university’s USTA Tennis On Campus program.

This scholarship is presented to one African American junior tennis player from the Section each year. Richard Bradley was a long-time volunteer for the Chicago Prairie Tennis Club (the oldest African American organization in the country), and focused much of his efforts in promoting and growing junior tennis.
