Live Music at Palmer Park to Raise Mental Health Awareness

June 7, 2021

DETROIT, Michigan  — On June 19th Motor City Tennis Club is hosting June Teenth, the Celebration of Tennis at Palmer Park Tennis Courts in Detroit, MI.  Besides tennis, music will be provided by the Grace Notes Project, an initiative led by The Scars Foundation with the purpose of giving back to neighborhoods by helping people with their mental health using music. Attendees will hear from an experienced violinist as well as a Mental Awareness Coach who will host  20-to-30-minute sessions during the day. Children will learn the joy of music through a drum session with all materials provided. These activities are meant to give kids and adults a chance to heal and express their feelings through music.

The USTA/Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation (MTEF) is proud to collaborate with The Scars Foundation in presenting these musical activities.

With the help of USTA/Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation, The Scars Foundation will not be ending its outreach at the Motor City Tennis Club June Teenth event. In the days following, the organization will reach out to the community to give back the gift of music.  This will include visiting shelters, retirement communities, and rehabilitation centers.

“This is one of the hardest issues facing people today. Athletes, including the tennis community is not excluded from this, as we have recently seen across the sport as well as other sports.  It is our vision that we open the dialogue and reduce the stigma about this topic for young and old not just in our tennis community but in all communities. No one should have to suffer in silence or feel alone, MTEFs collaboration with The Scars Foundation will complete a wholistic offering of resources as part of our total health initiative. “
